20 May Learning about the Anglo-Saxons at Jarrow Hall: Years 3 and 4
This week, Years 3 and 4 had an exciting time visiting Jarrow Hall. They all looked around a farm to learn about the animals that would have been around during the Anglo-Saxon period and how they were used. They also got to sit in a house built exactly like it would have been during this period, made from wattle and daub! Inside of the house they sat around a fire and listened to an Anglo-Saxon story about Beowulf and how he defeated Grendel, an evil monster from the Danish Moors.
In the afternoon, they learned all about crime and punishment and how murder would cost a fine whereas burning down a house would have been execution! Each class got to put a teacher in the stocks too before learning how the Anglo-Saxons fought Viking warriors.
