27 Mar Measurement in Year 1
Year 1 in Mrs Knott’s class have been learning about measurement in their Math lessons.
Today we began to investigate and measure the capacity of different containers using non-standard units of measure.
Today we worked in teams and used sand as our non standard unit, to see the capacity of a variety of containers and how much sand each container could hold.
Children made sure that the unit of measure remained the same each time by using the same cup each time and that they accurately measured the capacity of the container by filling the container to the top.
We also discussed different non-standard units of measurement, and how some are more accurate than others. For example, cups of water and sand are more accurate than cubes or marbles
because they take up more of the space in the container.
